1. JOB INFORMATION

  • ROLE:
    • A Student Nurse is an essential and pivotal role within Pillbox Hill Medical Center. Aspiring to become Registered Nurses, these dedicated individuals are the future backbone of the hospital. They are enrolled in internal nursing education programs with the ultimate goal of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and clinical experience required to provide high-quality patient care.

      Student Nurses are in a phase of their education and career development where they bridge the gap between classroom learning and hands-on clinical practice. This role serves as a crucial stepping stone in their journey towards becoming fully qualified and licensed Registered Nurses.
    DUTIES:
    • Student Nurses in an emergency room play a critical role in the fast-paced and high-stress environment of emergency care. Their duties and responsibilities in the ER include:
      • Assist in the initial assessment and triage of patients as they arrive, determining the urgency of their medical conditions and prioritizing care accordingly;
      • Regularly monitor patients' vital signs, such as blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature, to detect any critical changes;
      • Gather relevant medical histories, including allergies, medications, and pre-existing conditions, to provide essential information to other nurses or physicians;
      • Attend several classes ranging from administrative courses, to clinical teaching units in emergency nursing and mental health, to name a few.
      • Assist in various medical procedures and interventions, such as wound care, suturing, splinting, and starting intravenous (IV) lines, always under supervision.
      • Provide patients and their families with information about their conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions, ensuring they understand their care.
      • Maintain accurate and thorough medical records, documenting patient assessments, interventions, and responses to treatment;
      • Measure vital signs, including blood pressure, oxygen level, and body temperature;
      • Attend to patients' comfort needs, ensuring they have adequate pain control, blankets, and assistance with basic activities of daily living;
      • Collaborate closely with the rest of the healthcare team, including physicians, nurses, psychologists, surgeons, and radiology technicians, to coordinate patient care;
      • Communicate critical information to the healthcare team, including any changes in patient condition, test results, and treatment plans;
      • Offer emotional support and guidance to patients' families during times of crisis, helping them navigate the ER experience;
      • Ensure that medical equipment, such as defibrillators, ventilators, and monitors, is functioning correctly and ready for use;
      • Assist during emergencies and resuscitation efforts, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation;
      • Administer medications, including pain relief and emergency drugs, strictly under supervision;
      • Use their time in the ER to learn from experienced healthcare professionals, gaining valuable hands-on experience and knowledge in emergency care.

  • REQUIREMENTS:
    • To fulfill the role of a Student Nurse effectively, individuals must meet specific requirements that ensure their eligibility and readiness for this position.
      • Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a legal address in the state of San Andreas;
      • Must not have been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor in the recent past.
      • Must have a satisfactory physical and mental health status to perform the essential functions of the role safely.
      • Must have a High School Diploma/GED.
      • Must adhere to all hospital policies and ethical guidelines.


2. METHOD OF SELECTION

  • STEP I. PRELIMINARY JOB APPLICATION — This is the first step in applying for a job as a Student Nurse for Pillbox Hill Medical Center.
