      To whom it may concern,

Hello, and I hope you are well. I write to you because I am interested in joining your hospital as a paramedic intern, both as part of my degree in Applied Sciences and to follow my father’s steps as a paramedic himself. I have always wanted to help anyone in need, whether they have paws or hands, so a career in emergency medicine seems like a dream come true. I know a lot of people probably say that, but I mean it. My family has always valued charity very highly, and all of us have helped out at soup kitchens and animal shelters several times in the past.

I think I would be a good fit because in addition to the above, I believe I have a very open mind. Throughout my life, I have been exposed to different cultures, both online and in-person since as a family we have gone to visit relatives in India many times. I understand that everyone will have different views and beliefs, and that it is crucial to respect those beliefs whilst also providing the best care that we can. I also believe I perform well under stress (spending my teenage years working in a restaurant taught me that much – have you seen Gordon Ramsay?).

I’m not going to say that I’m perfect. The wisest people know that they know nothing, after all. But I am willing to learn, and to accept criticism, especially when those in need depend on me.

      Thank-you for reading,

      Jaya Sanjay Tiwari.

8.8) What's the backstory of your character? Provide information in regards to your character's childhood, education, past jobs, hobbies, motivations, future goals, and everything else you find relevant:

Jaya was born in San Fierro, to first-generation Indian immigrants who came to America during the migration boom in Y2K. Kind, humble, sociable (though not necessarily good at socialising), Jaya’s parents often exalt her as the embodiment of their ideals… when she’s not getting paint everywhere or knocking things over while trying to dance.
Possibly due to her father being a fireman for a time (which was more exciting than her mother’s various administrative careers), those who have known Jaya for a while can attest to a tomboyish spirit waiting to take root.

Growing up, Jaya often looked up to her father, and during her school years, she envied him for his career in driving a big truck around and saving lives. It sounded much better than walking a tightrope between two identities.
Like many immigrants, Jaya has often struggled with her position in society – is she American, or Indian? She was sure it could have been worse, but throughout her childhood, she was regularly faced with bullies touting stereotypes and playing up her faint Gujarat accent. Even other Indians (or “South Asian Americans”, as many prefer) sometimes considered her “not Indian enough”, especially on holidays to the subcontinent when the Tiwari family would visit relatives during festivals like Diwali: the triumph of good over evil. It was always a sad stain on what was otherwise a great deal of fun, with the dizzying lights of Mumbai, and the riotous joy of Holi, where throwing paint around was encouraged! There was no ignoring the poverty on the outskirts, though. Among other things Jaya took from her visits to India, a sense of privilege was among the strongest. This ended up compounding her admiration for her father’s work, especially as she learned more of his struggle while she grew.
Her father had always been a rock, dressed in bright silk just as the cities and villages of Gujarat during the Festival of Colours. He never gave out much information about himself that wasn’t immediately relevant, especially when it was negative, and Jaya would only come to realise just how much of that there was when he quit. It was partially in his honour that she continued to pursue a career in medicine – that, and her mother’s polite urging since the day she was born.

Whilst she made few friends at school, she found respite in another place: video games. After first grabbing a controller at her cousins' home, Jaya took to gaming like a Bollywood actor dances to the wind in the trees. With the inspiration of her father, she often took up the role of a healer in the virtual world, when she wasn't exploring her creative side and helping others build castles and treehouses and ships of all kinds. More money was spent on digital outfits than she would ever care to admit.
Though this outlet allowed her to briefly explore her Indian side, mounting pressure in the real world lead to a decision that has left a hole in her ever since. As adolescence, exams, and changing schools all hit at once, she chose to cut herself off from her Indian side, with only a few things remaining, like her part-time job at her mother’s restaurant, or the occasional puja at home: a Hindu practice of ritual worship which continued to hold spiritual and emotional value for her. She would still go with her family to India once or twice a year, though she only felt more isolated and alien to her relatives than before.

When the time came to attend college, she leapt at the opportunity for a new beginning, and packed her bags for Los Santos, where she found work at a craft store when she wasn’t studying for her bachelor’s degree in Applied Science. A nice all-rounder of a degree, it came with the curious requirement of spending time in a particular field that caught her attention: Emergency Medical Services. Not only would she get to help others the way her father had (minus the fires, the big trucks, and all manner of other things she frankly wasn’t strong enough for); maybe she could even make a few friends along the way… or at least enough money for a better computer.
